أوضح مدرب باريس سان جيرمان «لويس إنريكي»، أن الحظ ابتسم لفريقه، عقب إحرازه لقب دوري الأبطال الأوروبي لكرة القدم للمرة الثانية تواليا، بعد فوزه على منافسه أرسنال الإنجليزي بركلات الترجيح بنتيجة (4- 3) في المباراة النهائية التي انتهى وقتيها الأصلي والإضافي بالتعادل (1-1)، في اللقاء الذي جمعهما على ملعب «بوشكاش أرينا» في العاصمة المجرية بودابست، مؤكدًا أن الفوز بركلات الترجيح لا ينتقص من قيمة فريقه، بعد المستوى المميز الذي مكنه من التتويج، مشيداً بأداء لاعبي فريقه طوال الموسم، مؤكدًا أن رغبتهم المستمرة في التطور كانت أحد أهم أسباب نجاحه، جاء ذلك نقلاً عن صحيفة «ماركا» الإسبانية.
وقال: «أرسنال فريق قوي وخسر مباريات قليلة هذا الموسم حيث بدأ المباراة بشكل جيد وسجل مبكرًا، وكان علينا بذل مجهود كبير للعودة، وفي الشوط الثاني ظهرنا بصورة أفضل، وأعتقد أننا حققنا المطلوب منا، رغم أن الفريق الخصم قدم هو الآخر مباراة كبيرة».
وتابع يقول: «النادي كان بحاجة إلى تثبيت مكانته بين كبار أوروبا، والآن أصبح ضمن هذه المجموعة، ولا نريد التراجع عن ذلك، لأن اللاعبين مختلفون، أحيانًا أطلب منهم التوقف عن التدريب لكنهم يستمرون في العمل. عندما يستمتع اللاعب بما يفعله يصبح كل شيء أسهل، ولهذا أنا واثق من أن الفريق سيواصل المنافسة بقوة في الموسم القادم».
وأبدى إنريكي استياءه من موجة الانتقادات التي تعرض لها عقب خسارة المنتخب الإسباني من نظيره المغربي في كأس العالم 2022، وقال: «خسرت ركلات الترجيح خلال تدريبي لإسبانيا أمام المغرب في مونديال قطر، وعاقبوني بشدة بسبب ذلك، رغم أن الأمر يعتمد على كفاءة اللاعبين وحارس المرمى، وركلات الترجيح لا تغير تقييم أداء أرسنال أو أداء أي فريق في العالم».

He emphasized that winning on penalties does not diminish the value of his team, given the exceptional level that enabled them to be crowned champions, praising the performance of his players throughout the season, and confirming that their continuous desire to improve was one of the main reasons for their success. This was reported by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”.
He said: “Arsenal is a strong team and has lost few matches this season. They started the game well and scored early, and we had to put in a lot of effort to come back. In the second half, we appeared better, and I believe we achieved what was required of us, even though the opposing team also delivered a great performance.”
He continued: “The club needed to establish its position among the elite in Europe, and now it is part of this group. We do not want to backtrack on that, because the players are different. Sometimes I ask them to stop training, but they continue to work. When a player enjoys what they are doing, everything becomes easier, and that’s why I am confident that the team will continue to compete strongly in the coming season.”
Enrique expressed his displeasure at the wave of criticism he faced after Spain’s loss to Morocco in the 2022 World Cup, saying: “I lost the penalty shootout while coaching Spain against Morocco in the Qatar World Cup, and they punished me severely for that, even though it depends on the players’ and the goalkeeper’s efficiency. Penalty shootouts do not change the evaluation of Arsenal’s performance or the performance of any team in the world.”
